Lexus J201 concept
This utilitarian beast is the Lexus J201 concept, the ultimate Lexus off-roader. Built to compete in the gruelling 10-day-long Rebelle Rally, this is what happens when you turn a Lexus SUV up to 11. Based on the American Lexus LX 570 flagship, the J201 has had its off-road abilities enhanced by overlanding experts Expedition Overland, in order to survive everything the desert can throw at it.
The name is taken from the LX 570’s internal Lexus chassis and platform code, URJ201, as a subtle nod to the original car beneath the modifications. Speaking of which, the J201 features a beefier front bumper with inbuilt winch, knobbly 33-inch tyres while a tougher skid plate has been installed to protect against any nasty knocks. At the rear, there is a new bumper with a ladder, spare tyre and two five-gallon water cans to aid the drivers should things get tough.
The J201 Concept will be driven by defending Rebelle Rally champions Rachelle Croft and Taylor Pawley, who will be hoping to cling onto their title against several other determined female drivers across the 2000+ kilometre rally, staged across the harsh climates and topography of California and Nevada.
When you think of Lexus you think of craftsmanship, striking Japanese design and impeccable build quality, you don’t think of fruit. Nevertheless, Lexus Spain has adopted locally grown apples in its plan to further the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
The apples in question are delicious Fuji Apples that are grown in the Sierra de Alcarama mountain range in La Rioja Baja, which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. With a fresh source of crystal-clear mountain streams, plus the varying temperatures throughout the night and day, these apples give a greater sweetness, aroma and colouring.
The ‘Manzanas Lexus’ project applies Takumi levels of craftsmanship, with each apple being manually labelled with stickers of the Lexus Logo. The sticker is applied during June and July for the greatest incidence of light to leave a physical Lexus logo impression on the skin of each apple.
Gone in 60 Units
For the 2021 model year, Lexus has introduced a limited-edition variant of the RC F Track Edition.
With just 60 examples being produced worldwide, this ultra-rare Track Edition is lighter than the standard RC F and features Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes, a titanium exhaust system plus extensive use of carbon fibre. This helps to liven up the 465bhp 5.0-litre V8 even more and can see it hit 60mph in just 3.96 seconds.
It will be available in just two colours, Cloudburst Gray or Arctic Blast Satin. Arctic Blast Satin is a new white semi-matte paint for Lexus and manages to combine the beautiful satin shine of a matte finish yet has been engineered to be durable enough to go through domestic car wash machines. Inside, the special edition gets red leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara accents while red carbon fibre inserts adorn the cabin.
Sadly, only a handful will be coming to Europe, so the chance of seeing one, let alone getting your hands on one, is extremely slim.
Lexus UX Black Line Special Edition
The Lexus UX 250h is already one of the most stylish compact SUV’s on the market but there is always room for improvement. Step in the UX Black Line Special Edition.
Only destined for American markets, the UX is the latest model in the US model range to receive the striking Black Line Special Edition makeover. The eye-catching Grecian Water paint is a new colour, (Eminent White Pearl or Caviar are also available) which extends the entire length of the body thanks to colour-coordinated wheel-arch cladding. The 18” wheels are finished in black with matching black wheel nuts while the grille surround, headlights, wing mirrors and roof rails also receive the black paint treatment.
Inside, you can find a choice of either Black or Birch NuLuxe-trimmed seats with contrasting blue accents and seatbelts. More colour contrasting can be found with exclusive floor and cargo mats as well as black and blue key gloves. Owners also receive a pair of Zero Halliburton travel cases, each with a chrome logo badge laser etched with Zero Halliburton for Lexus, and an interior lining featuring a Lexus grille motif and a Lexus embossed leather logo badge.
Lexus RC F GT3 at the Petit Le Mans
The Lexus RC F GT3 has been performing very strongly in this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with numerous wins and podium positions so far this season. The latest race saw the GT3 add yet another podium for the AIM Vasser Sullivan team’s haul in one of the most challenging races on the calendar.
The #14 RC F GT3 managed to score a highly respectful second place at the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with ack Hawksworth, Aaron Telitz and Michael de Quesada behind the wheel. Despite falling a lap down just two hours into the race, clever use of pit strategy and some brilliant driving saw the tram fight back up the order, with the #14 car leading for 57 laps. This podium finish gives them the overall GTD class points lead with only two races remaining.
Sadly, it was not the most successful race for the #12 car, driven by Townsend Bell, Frankie Montecalvo and newcomer Kyle Kirkwood. Despite being within the top-five during the majority of the 10-hour race, a heavy hit saw the car tumble down to eighth place with only 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
