As 2013 comes to a close, we felt it was important to look back on the past 12 months and rediscover some of our favourite Lexus moments of the year.
We opened 2013 with some pretty huge news – the announcement of the new Lexus IS at the North American Auto Show in Detroit.
The IS has gone of to win major plaudits for its design and engineering (as well as it’s hard-to-believe low running costs), and the 60-plus drivers who were given the chance to get behind the wheel at the Goodwood Festival of Speed Moving Motor Show were certainly impressed with how it drives. See their first drive videos here.
The 2013 Festival of Speed also saw the first official appearance by Lexus at Goodwood, which meant that the full range, plus a special TRD-spec IS and the result of the Lexus Art Project provided a fittingly scorching accompaniment to the blistering temperatures at the show.
Racing driver and TV presenter Amanda Stretton also took some time to drive the IS in the Scottish Highlands for her video review, while Tamara Rojo showed why she is the English National Ballet’s artistic director and principal ballerina in our look behind the scenes of the production of the IS advert Poise.
The Lexus LFA always proves a huge draw wherever it goes, particularly after its jaw-dropping appearance on Top Gear and a superlative-strewn Top Gear Magazine review from Jeremy Clarkson, who billed it: “The best car I’ve ever driven.”
However, our favourite LFA moment of 2013 was rather more down-to-earth than a rip-roaring drive on a pristine race track. Instead, we chose to give the Lexus UK supercar a proper clean, and asked paint and body work magicians Perfection Valet to do the job.
Read our ultimate car cleaning guide here – and don’t worry, the tips still apply even if you don’t have a supercar.
Just as crazy as the LFA was the rulebook-shredding LF-NX, which caused quite a stir when it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The compact SUV concept sported the latest in forward-looking Lexus design, following the likes of previous show cars like the LF-LC and the LF-CC. Our Q&A with Lexus Europe boss Paul Van der Burgh showed that models like the LF-NX could become road-going reality in the not-too-distant future.
One model that’s already here is the Lexus GS 300h, our latest hybrid executive saloon, which has proven a hit by combining the incredible comfort and luxury of the GS with the new 2.5-litre petrol-electric Lexus Hybrid Drive drivetrain.
At the luxury end of the Lexus range, we also showed off the amazing Climate Concierge climate system in the Lexus LS limousine by growing 50 orchids inside the car. See the video here.
Looking ahead to 2014, Lexus has already announced plans to introduce an updated CT 200h, which will see the now-trademark spindle grille feature on every model in the Lexus range.
But what really got the Lexus enthusiast’s heart racing was the unveiling of the all-new and quite frankly delicious new Lexus RC Coupe.
Meanwhile, as December rolled around Lexus took the chance to tease a new F performance model that will debut early in 2014. Details at this stage are scarce bu you can read all about the next Lexus F model in this post.
So as the curtain comes down on 2013, we’d like to say a huge thank you for your support of the Lexus UK Blog over the past 12 months, especially to our readers who also follow us on Twitter @OfficialLexusUK, like our Lexus UK Facebook page or subscribe to our YouTube or Instagram channels.
