Lexus NX debut – the countdown continues

The Lexus NX has finally broken cover in these new preview images.

Until then, here’s what we know about the NX so far, and the LF-NX concept that preceeded it.

This is the first picture of the all-new Lexus NX. The teaser hints at the SUV’s sharp lines, spindle grille and exciting headlights.

We won’t get to see the car in the metal until April 20th, when the new compact SUV will be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, so until then join our countdown to the reveal as we take a look back at what we already know about the car and the LF-NX concept which heralded its arrival.

We had a first glimpse of the ‘new Lexus concept’ as it was then called back in September, when we published the first images – but it wasn’t to remain hidden from view for long.

The LF-NX concept was unleashed on the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September, where its sharp angles and standout appearance again highlighted Lexus’s renewed focus on design. A second appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show soon followed, and this time the LF-NX was boosted with the addition of a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

We were also granted a private audience with the car at a secret location in Europe – and we took the time to create our detailed 360-degree video.

With a striking look that represents the L-Finesse design philosophy at its boldest, the LF-NX was one of the most talked-about cars of 2013.

When journalists describe a car by saying: ‘…the design of the LF-NX was supposed to push, break and probably set fire to the envelope of what people expect from a Lexus,’ then you know it’s doing something new and unique. You can read our round-up of the early reviews here.

We’ve also taken an in-depth look at the design inspiration behind LF-NX in a series of stories.

First, we caught up with lead Lexus designer Nobuyuki Tomatsu, who explained how the team at the Lexus Design Centre trimmed every ounce of fat from the car to achieve its lean, muscular look.

Then, we revealed the amazing kaleidoscope technology concealed within the concept’s rear combination lights.

Finally, we delved inside the LF-NX with a look at its interior design and speculated on exactly how the NX could offer a new way of controlling its operating system with an advanced human-machine interface.

We’ve also taken the inside scoop on the new car from top Lexus bosses. Previous Director of Lexus Europe Paul Van der Burgh described LF-NX as the most provocative concept in recent Lexus history in our online Q&A, and Lexus International executive vice-president Mark Templin told us he expects NX to take Lexus to new levels of popularity in Europe when we caught up with him at the Geneva motor show earlier this month.

All that remains now is to wait until 2am (UK time) on Sunday, April 20th, when the Lexus NX is finally officially revealed.

  1. Very much looking forward to driving (even purchasing) LF-NX, BUT please make sure it has REAL wheels/tyres and at least a spare that will get me home or to the airport – it is an SUV. Living in “pot hole hell – SW UK”, have pot holed my CT200h a few times at cost!!, but my trusty RX300 goes on and on

    2. It depends on the size of the boot for me – it doesn’t look very big from what I can tell and a spare looks like it would take up too much room. That said – if there is room then yes please!

  2. I was following everything NX the past 6months but I heard today that the 300h will be more than 30k, so thats me saying adios.

  3. I have the RX300 – done 146,000 miles and is 12 years old. Gear box has finally died (but is being repaired)!!!! Been a fab car and never had a problem until now. How does the new LF-NX compare in size to the RX300?
